2009 Byron Hester Solo Flute Competition

Preliminary Round • Taped Entries

Record the following pieces presented in this order:
 1. C.P.E. Bach, Sonata in A Minor for Flute Alone –
     (Record the Poco Adagio and either of the Allegro movements – no repeats)
 2. Paul Hindemith, Eight Pieces for Solo Flute –
     (Record any four movements of your choosing)


Final Round • Live Audition (March 14, 2009)

• Perform a public recital for judges at the 2009 Houston Flute Club Flute Fest at the University of Houston.
• Works can be performed in any order:
     1. C.P.E. Bach, Sonata in A Minor for Flute Alone –
       (Play the Poco Adagio and either of the Allegro movements – no repeats)
     2. One or more movements from a piece of the contestant’s choice for
       flute and piano not to exceed ten minutes in length
• Contestants are bound to their chosen final round repertoire. No changes are permitted.

Teachers who submit students for the Denise Jennings Solo and Ensemble Competition in the 12th grade and lower categories are required to help with the organization of the Solo and Ensemble competition or the HFC Flute Fest.
