September Flutist of the Month
How long have you played the flute? 6 years
What bands or other ensembles have you belonged to before? This summer I was a member of AFA's High School orchestra. I'm also heavily involved in my high school's symphonic band.
Have you participated or placed in other competitions? Earlier this year I competed in and won the 11th grade division of the Denise Jennings Competition.
Have you attended any musical summer camps? I attended Floot Fire during the summer before my junior year and loved it! This summer I attended the American Festival for the Arts Summer Music Conservatory.
What is the make and model of your instrument? Muramatsu GX
What practice advice would you give others who are interested in doing well in this competition next year? Practice smart! Focus in on the problems you need to fix instead of just playing through your pieces everyday.
What is your most memorable moment playing the flute? I'd have to say my most memorable moment playing the flute was the first time I played a solo in front of an audience. I was incredibly nervous, but I loved every second of it.
What other hobbies do you enjoy? Along with being a Drum Major of Cy-Fair's marching band, I'm also a varsity pole-vaulter.
Every month, the Houston Flute Club selects a different artist to highlight on its Flutist of the Month page. Houston area flutists are featured quarterly.
